Lesson 1 of 13

Finger Placement and Typing Posture

Sit with your back straight and feet flat on the floor. Keep the screen at eye level and about an arm’s length away.

Rest your left fingers on A S D F and your right fingers on J K L ; — this is the home row. Feel the small bumps on F and J; they let you find the home row without looking.

Each finger is responsible for a column of keys. Both thumbs share the space bar.

Tips

  • Keep wrists slightly raised, not resting on the desk.
  • Return to the home row after every key.
  • Do not look at the keyboard — look at the screen.
